Loyalty Points

2007 Football Minimum Gift Requirements:

This policy is effective in calendar year 2007 for Football Priority Parking and 2007-08 for Men’s Basketball Priority Parking. Policy changes and applications may occur for subsequent years. Currently there are three components to the accumulation of Tribe Club Loyalty Points - - annual gift to the AEF or AEF Endowment, cumulative gift to the AEF or AEF Endowment since 1980, and number of years giving to AEF or AEF Endowment since 1980.

The majority of donations to the Tribe Club are unrestricted and encouraged for the Tribe Club’s mission of funding athletic scholarships; however, some donors prefer to restrict their gifts to specific sports, endowments or capital expenses. If you are making a restricted gift, please clearly indicate on your check or form to which account you want your donation deposited - M-Gymnastics, W-Golf, HEYFARL, Fund for Coaching Excellence, the name of the Endowment, etc.

Donations to an athletic capital campaign, an athletic endowment and/or restricted giving (M-Gymnastics, W-Golf, HEYFARL, Fund for Coaching Excellence, a named Endowment, etc.) will qualify you for membership to the Tribe Club. Loyalty Points and seats/parking priorities are calculated on ALL Athletic donations.

Method of calculation for fiscal year 2007 Tribe Club Loyalty Points per household:

Annual Gift to AEF & AEF Endowments:
~ 3 POINTS x Current Annual Donation from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007.
~ These points are calculated on all current year athletic donations and pledge payments, including endowments and capital campaigns, received by the June 30 priority deadline.

Lifetime Giving:
~ .25 POINTS X Cumulative Giving to AEF and/or AEF Endowments since July 1, 1980.

Years Giving To AEF:
~ 350 POINTS x Number of Years you made any gift amount designated to AEF and/or AEF Endowments since July 1, 1980.

Example A: Jefferson Tribe’70 gave $4,000 to an Unrestricted AEF fund on March 1, 2007. Since 1980, he has been a donor to Athletics for 20 years and his lifetime cumulative giving to Athletics is $40,000.

Example B: Mary Wren gave $1,000 designated to the Women’s Soccer Fund on September 15, 2006, and $1,000 to the Martha E. Barksdale Endowment for women’s scholarships on June 30, 2007. Mary has donated $1,000 to each of these two funds for ten of the last 20 years.

Note: At this time, there is no penalty in Years-Given points for not giving in consecutive years.

Example C: William Botetourt, a local businessman, donated his Nags Head vacation home for one week to the Lord Botetourt (no relation) Auction in 2007. The vacation home rents for $3,500 a week during the peak season. William also donated $1,000 in meals from his restaurant to the men’s basketball team after their home games. This is the first year William has donated to the Tribe Club.

Note: Gift-in-Kind credit to the AEF is valued at the fair market value at the time of the donation, not the purchase price.

Example D: Mr. and Mrs. Williamsburg established an endowment for the football team on July 1, 1985, for $10,000. For the past 20 years, Mr. and Mrs. Williamsburg gave $2,500 on December 31 each year to their Williamsburg Football Endowment. On June 30, 2007, in an effort to increase their Loyalty Points ranking, Mr. and Mrs. Williamsburg gave $2,500 to the capital fund to build the Jimmye Laycock Football Complex.

Note: Gifts made only to an endowment and/or capital fund still qualify a donor for Loyalty Point status.

Example E: Mrs. Mary Jones College '91 cumulatively has donated $1,000 since 1997, and she has given every year for 11 years. This fiscal year she gives $250 to Women’s Basketball. Mr. William College '90, her lucky husband, has donated $1,500 cumulatively since 1996, but he has only given in four of the last 12 years. This year he gives $250 to Baseball.

Note: Loyalty Points are based on household giving and are calculated on joint giving even if the gifts are only credited to one spouse. William gave first in 1995 and Mary had consistent giving since 1997, so as a household the College’s receive credit for 12 years (1996-2007) of giving.
